CONDITIONAL SENTENCES TYPE1

TRAINING

In a conditional sentence of type 1, the verb of the proposition "if" goes in "simple present", while that of the main clause goes in "simple future".
Proposition "if" (condition)

Main proposition (result)

If simple present
If this thing happens

simple future
that thing will happen.

As with all conditional sentences, the order of propositions is not fixed. It may be necessary to modify pronouns and punctuation by changing the order of the clauses but the meaning of the sentence does not change.

EXAMPLES:

§  If it rains, you will get wet.
§  You will get wet if it rains.
§  If Sally is late again I will be mad.
§  I will be mad if Sally is late again.
§  If you don't hurry, you will miss the bus.

§  You will miss the bus if you don't hurry.

Type 1 conditional sentences are used to talk about real and possible situations. Here we use a simple present tense in the if-clause and will /can / may + infinitive in the result clause.
Study the sentences given below.
If I am hungry, I will get something to eat.
If you are hungry, you can eat an apple.
If it rains we may get wet.
